What You Will Be Doing:

The Pilot Plant Technician’s role is to support (and learn to lead on occasion) trial-related functions in both the benchtop and pilot plant. This position exhibits the following competencies at a successful level: Practice What You Preach, Results Focus, Know Yourself, Proactive Cooperation, and Initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and perform trial-related activities (e.g., weighing ingredients, assembling finished products, performing required unit operations, sanitation, and other assigned duties).
  • Utilize HACCP training to support release trials.
  • Learn to operate new equipment and perform operations-related systems (NesTMS, GREAT, LOTO, etc.) with assistance or independently.
  • Locate all required forms and documents needed for trial work (including CCP & OPRP forms).
  • Operate the majority of equipment used in the specific platform at the level of “can perform with help” to “can perform alone.”
  • Participate in NCE-related activities (operational reviews, problem-solving).
  • Utilize basic cooking techniques (e.g., making sauces, cooking starches, pizza topping) and understand basic culinary techniques.
  • Understand ingredient functionality and its application to finished products.
  • Provide liaison support to fill orders, check the status of incoming goods, and transfer information.
  • Assist in inventory management as needed.
  • Perform product pulls, inventory re-stocking, and ingredient purging as needed.
  • Execute assigned activities within trial requests.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • A.S. or B.S. degree preferred in science, culinary, baking, or related area, or equivalent experience.
  • Effectively and efficiently plan and prioritize work.
  • Previous experience working in food manufacturing and/or culinary environments preferred.
  • Ability to become proficient with Microsoft Office and company systems such as SAP, GREAT, NesTMS, and NesRequest.
  • Detect and understand warning lights, buzzers, alarms, or instruments indicating unsafe conditions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work under short timelines, accommodate changing work schedules, and work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrate competence in industrial-scale food manufacturing equipment.
  • Sufficient understanding of mathematics and data analysis (e.g., pivot tables, graphs, KPIs).
  • Travel as required to support consumer testing, focus groups, factory tests, and other trial-related activities (10%).

Supervision Received/Given:

  • A proactive independent person capable of leading/completing projects with minimal supervision. Creative and innovative with a sense of urgency and passion. Formal training sessions will be provided for new employees, along with specific courses required as an R&D employee. The manager will guide the training plan, which the individual is responsible for executing. This individual does not have direct reports.

Pay: $14.32 – $20.45 /hr.
