What You Will Be Doing:
The Geospatial Software Engineer will focus on designing big data solutions leveraging open source and cloud-based technologies, working with various teams across the organization. This role involves building large-scale data processing systems and APIs, dealing with extensive data sets, and developing innovative solutions. The engineer will drive the creation of geospatial data assets to support field platforms and R&D product pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and support cloud and open source systems to process geospatial data assets via an API-based platform
  • Partner with internal development communities to integrate data sets and make data available across the enterprise
  • Build highly scalable APIs and associative architecture to support high-request volumes
  • Provide leadership in understanding environmental/external influences on-field performance and risk factors
  • Work at all stages of the software life cycle: Proof of Concept, MVP, Production, and Deprecation

Required Skills & Experience:

  • BSc degree in Computer Science or relevant job experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Python, Java, Go, or similar development languages
  • Extensive knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as Go, Scala, Java, JavaScript, SQL, Bash, Python, and/or R
  • Experience developing HTTP APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) in an open source technology, preferably in a cloud environment
  • Ability to build and maintain modern cloud architecture (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS
  • Experience with code versioning and dependency management systems (e.g., GitHub, SVN, Maven)
  • Proven success utilizing Docker to build and deploy within a CI/CD environment, preferably using Kubernetes

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • MSc in Computer Science or related field
  • Knowledge of open-source geospatial solutions like GeoServer, GeoTrellis, GeoMesa
  • Experience with stream processing (e.g., Kafka)
  • Highly proficient (4+ years) in GoLang
  • Experience delivering full-stack development solutions in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of agriculture and/or agriculture-oriented businesses
  • Experience with complex data projects focusing on data collection, parsing, management, and delivery
  • Adaptability to new technologies
  • Capable of hardware and software design decisions, developing prototypes and proof of concepts
  • Experience with object-oriented design, coding, and testing patterns
  • Experience creating cloud computing solutions and web applications leveraging public and private APIs
  • Proven experience (2+ years) with distributed systems (e.g., Argo, Kubernetes, Spark)
  • Proficient (4+ years) with Command Line Interface systems (e.g., Docker, Argo, K8s, AWS CLI, GCloud, pSQL, SSH)

Pay: $77 – $110 /hr.
