Have These Answers Prepared Before Arriving to Your IT Interview

Written by Insights Contributor | May 8, 2018 4:50:31 PM

If you have landed an interview for an IT job, it's important you make the best possible impression. This means preparing in advance for the interview and ensuring you are ready to convince the hiring manager you are the perfect candidate for the job.

One of the best ways to prepare is to craft answers to common interview questions. Have an idea of how you'll answer these queries when and if the hiring manager asks them:

  • Tell me about yourself.

The goal of this question is to learn about your work experience and whether you would be a good fit for the company culture. Prepare an answer that is focused on showing why you are a good fit for the job. Review the job criteria from the ad to find out what the company is looking for, so your answer can illustrate you have these traits. Be specific when you discuss professional accomplishments, so the hiring manager knows you actually have the abilities you claim.

  • What's your biggest weakness?

This question can be a hard one to answer. You don't want to do something cliched and untrue such as saying your weakness is you're too dedicated to your work. Your answer, instead, should include an explanation of how you've overcome an actual weakness and improved so you can turn the answer into a positive one.

  • What questions do you have for me?

It's imperative you research the company and come prepared with informed, intelligent questions to ask. Not only is this essential to show the hiring manager you're really interested in the job, you'll also be able to ask important questions that will help you determine if you'd like working at the organization.
