Challenge
The company’s lab and clinical trial data collection process relied on a legacy system that had not been maintained for over a decade. The outdated infrastructure lacked scalability, efficiency, and modern security protocols, making it increasingly difficult to manage large datasets and integrate new functionalities. Performance bottlenecks and data management challenges slowed down operations, limiting the organization’s ability to optimize workflows and meet evolving business needs.
To modernize its system, the company needed a solution that would improve performance, enhance deployment efficiency, and ensure seamless data migration without disrupting ongoing lab operations. The transition involved moving a complex 200+ table application from Oracle to AWS Aurora Postgres while ensuring that all critical functionalities remained intact. Additionally, the project required careful reverse engineering of the existing system to guarantee that all dependencies and workflows were accurately replicated and improved in the new cloud environment.

The database migration from Oracle to AWS Aurora Postgres provided improved performance and manageability, while moving the application server from JBoss to AWS ECS Fargate introduced a containerized environment that enhanced deployment flexibility and operational efficiency.
