A Clearer Interface for Hospital Diagnostics

Summary

A diagnostics company needed to improve how healthcare professionals interacted with a hospital instrument. The project required simpler navigation, clearer data visualization, and technology that supported coordinated product development.

P4P by TPI helped deliver a modern diagnostic instrument interface with simpler navigation, streamlined workflows, and improved data visualization, while supporting coordination across the client's hardware and firmware teams.

About our client

The client is an international healthcare company specializing in in vitro diagnostics. Its business includes a blood culture product line supported by laboratory work and clinical trials.

Challenge

The company wanted to improve the user interface of a diagnostic instrument used in hospitals worldwide. The goal was to make the instrument easier for healthcare professionals to navigate and use in their daily work.

The interface needed to present information more clearly and support more efficient workflows. Achieving those goals required attention to both the user experience and the technology used to build it.

The client also needed a development approach that kept its hardware and firmware teams aligned. Selecting a suitable platform was an important part of creating a cohesive interface and supporting coordination throughout product development.

Solution

P4P by TPI evaluated the interface development approach through research, experimentation, and proofs of concept. This feasibility work informed a recommendation to use Microsoft .NET Core and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) for the new interface.

The team developed the interface around simpler navigation, streamlined workflows, and clearer data visualization. Implementation used C#, WPF, SQLite, and SQL Server Express to support the solution.

A dedicated team brought together a systems engineer, project lead, solutions lead, developer, and user experience designer. Working with the client, they combined technical and design expertise while supporting the hardware and firmware teams' coordination throughout product development.

Results

The client gained a modern, more intuitive interface for its diagnostic instrument. Simpler navigation made it easier for healthcare professionals to move through the interface and interact with the instrument.

Streamlined workflows and improved data visualization strengthened the user experience. The solution made the instrument's information easier to navigate and interpret as part of the professionals' work.

The interface needed to work for the people using the instrument and the teams developing it. Testing the approach through proofs of concept helped us recommend a platform that supported both a clearer user experience and coordinated product development.
